Forecasted to reach $5 trillion in sales, the global technology market with cybersecurity investing included is bustling. In fact, by the year 2026, the market for cybersecurity investments is expected to be a $345.4 billion industry.

1. Brian Krebs

Brian Krebs is a former Washington Post reporter who came into the world of cybersecurity by necessity. He found himself locked out of his computer by a malicious software program.

This forced him to not only figure it out but to become a leading expert in the world of cybercrime. He’s authored the New York Times bestseller Spam Nation.

2. Chris Krebs

Having the claim to fame as the first Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in the United States Depart of Homeland Security gives Christopher Krebs some insight into the world of cybersecurity.

Now, Krebs is regarded as an expert in the cybersecurity world. He is frequently speaking as conferences as the keynote speaker. He’s recently spoken at the:

  • RSA Conference
  • Cybersummit
  • SANS Cyber Threat Intelligence Summit

Krebs is most recently known for his tangle in the follow-up to the 2020 election. In his role as the Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, he was responsible for securing the presidential election.

Donald Trump asserted the CISA computers switched votes from him to Joe Biden. Krebs responded that not only, but dozens of other security experts agreed that allegations of fraud were wrong and unsubstantiated.

Now, Krebs along with former Facebook CISO Alex Stamos formed their own private cybersecurity consulting firm called Krebs Stamos Group. They were quick to land their first big client SolarWinds.

3. Mikko Hypponen

Mikko Hypponen is widely recognized as one of the premiere leaders in the cybersecurity industry.  Currently, Hypponen acts as the Chief Research Officer at  F-Secure, a global security solution leader.

He has published works on cybersecurity at:

He’s also been a guest lecturer at  Stanford, Oxford, and Cambridge.

4. Troy Hunt

As the creator of Have I Been Pwned? (https://haveibeenpwned.com/), Troy Hunt is sought after for his expertise. The work he’s done at  Have I Been Pwned? has given him global regard.

Have I Been Pwned? works to evaluate your email to tell you if your email address or password are compromised. He also offers solutions to address the threat your email is facing.

Hunt also works as a Microsoft Regional Director and has been named the Most Valuable Professional awardee for Developer Security.

He created his Have I Been Pwned? site with two purposes in mind. First, it provided a much-needed service for consumers since data breaches are so rampant.

Because remaining current in the world of technology mattered to Hunt, working on the site gave him the opportunity to keep his own skills up-to-date.

5. Marcus J. Carey

Marcus Carey is renowned in the world of cybersecurity and is best known for creating Tribe of Hackers, a best-selling cybersecurity book series.

He’s also a cybersecurity advocate who is known for his work protecting government data and working to keep the Internet safe.

His first came into the world of cybersecurity while he was in the U.S. Navy and was trained as a  cryptographer.

He’s also been vocal and regarded too for his work at addressing anti-racism in the tech industry.

He continues to work in the world of cybersecurity addressing penetration testing, incident response, and digital forensics for multiple government agencies.

He was recently published in Security Magazine where he discusses the importance of using sales best practices to handle ransomware attacks.

6. Graham Cluley

Graham Cluley is a British-born security blogger who is regarded as one of the most regarded in the world of cybersecurity.

Cluley is the host of the popular podcast called @SmashinSecurity. The show invites guests from around the globe who are experts in the world of cybersecurity.

The podcast has had over 5 million downloads. It’s been named the Best Security Podcast multiple times by the prestigious Security Blogger Awards held in London.

He also publishes his blog called Nake Security which has won many awards in the cybersecurity world.

7. Dave DeWalt

Dave DeWalt is the founder and managing director of NightDragon which is known because it recently invested in multi-cloud security startup vArmour.

The pandemic brought on a profound recognition and need for better protection from ransomware and cybersecurity needs.

DeWalt has spoken about the current technology and cybersecurity aggressive threat landscape in history. He actively advocates helping commercial and government agencies to fight these risks.

Investors obviously agreed with their $11.5 billion in total cybersecurity venture capital financing into cybersecurity startups.

8. Bruce Schneier

The Economist calls Bruce Schneier the security guru and is regarded as one of the most influential cybersecurity experts around the globe.

He has written many books on cybersecurity with his most known book being Data and Goliath and Click Here to Kill Everybody. He’s also published many times on other platforms.

His latest book called We Have Root is a collection of essays that address cybersecurity topics, privacy, the role of technology in national security, elections, transportation, war, and the Internet of Things.

Other accolades and roles in the cybersecurity world include:

9. Lesley Carhart

Acting as the Principal Industrial Incident Responder at Dragos, an industrial cybersecurity company, Lesley Carhart is widely regarded as an expert in the field of cybersecurity incident response and digital forensics.

Her area of expertise is digital forensics and she’s been recognized as DEF CON Hacker of the Year. She was also named a “Top Woman in Cybersecurity” from CyberScoop.

Carhart has spent her illustrious IT career in cybersecurity specializing in information security focusing on response to nation-state adversary attacks.
