Cyber Resilience [Cybersecurity Brief]

Now that we are four months deep into the global pandemic, we are given the opportunity to reflect on the progress (or failures) that we have experienced. Specifically, in the cybersecurity space, there have been a mix of both progressions and failures. More importantly, however, is how we adapt and improve in this new, rapidly changing world. Articles by Eileen Yu from ZDNet, Monica Verma from Dark Reading, and Nir Zuk from TechCrunch stress the significance of resiliency in the cyber industry when it comes to moving forward in the pandemic.

Since the start of the pandemic, 91% of organizations in the U.S. have seen an increase in cyberattacks. Now that businesses have experienced these threats and are starting to bring employees back into the office, recovery plans are being set in place. However, some countries are experiencing major gaps in their recovery plans. For example, 93% of businesses in Singapore are struggling to carry out IT operations due to the high volume of attacks.

This data clearly presents that organizations across the globe are experiencing difficulties when it comes to keeping their systems secure. One key lesson to take away from this security breach is we must practice cyber resiliency. Cyber resiliency is two-fold. One, organizations must always be alerted to predict when a disaster may hit again. Secondly, entities must be able to quickly adapt when there is a cyber emergency. The combination of prediction and adaptation allows for stronger protection while encompassing cyber resiliency
